what on earth have we been up to this summer? obviously, not blogging. sorry...everyone can stop the harassment now. we're now back in dallas and thrilled to be home! we missed mister shane way too much. at any rate, here's how we've been spending some of our time!
we hung out with these fabulous fruit loops lots and lots, but not enough! i miss my family. there's nobody quite as hilarious and loving and fabulous.

we took some swimming lessons at the local pool in santa clara. both girls did great...lucy even got her face in the water this year and didn't threaten her teacher with certain death even once.

we climbed and climbed and climbed up the rock wall at the community center. emma's a bit obsessed. this may be something we have to start doing here in dallas. it's been years and years since shane and i were climbing around like crazies.
we hung out in pine valley, which was much, much cooler than santa clara. every kid's dream...playing in a creek, jumping from rock to rock and ignoring your mother's concerns about the water (which must be a filthy, bacteria cesspool, despite the assurances from the locals that it's clean, glacial runoff). wilderness can't be trusted quite like the city. at least you know what you're getting there. i'm still keeping my eyes out for hepatitis from the water.
we borrowed my parents' saturn on a small excursion out of town and blew a tire. the real fun started when we put the spare on and discovered it was flat as a pancake. no cell coverage (at all) in the middle of nowhere between po-dunk, utah and the boonies, laughing hysterically. we are CURSED on road trips. the question is: will we ever learn?
...and some, not so much.
we went to a ridiculously lame petting zoo at the fair in utah. all animals were terrified of human contact of any kind and would run away squealing, snorting and baaing from anyone trying to actually pet them. well, except for one psychotic chicken, but i'm convinced it was rabid.
we (read: mom and aunt doni) made rockets...again...we seem to do this annoying craft each and every year. we end up shooting our rockets up in the air and then chasing them all over creation because HEAVEN FORBID that we don't take the things home. this year we had to get them off the roof, i kid you not. of course, they're completely forgotten by the time we pull into the driveway at midnight. nooooo, i'm not at all bitter or hostile.
cutting, taping, sealing every little hole where air could escape, which would thus render our launch less than a pure success.
we flew on some airplanes and experienced some awesome turbulence. says autumn, somewhat maniacally, with sweat pouring out of every pore, "wheee, wow, isn't this fun, girls?!"
we licked popsicles and jumped on the trampoline like lunatics with friends (6 kids on one trampoline...it's a miracle there weren't any orthopedic surgeons involved).
we went to the dallas zoo with some friends and promptly decided that it was too dang hot for animal observation and headed to the little stream in the kids' farm for splashing around and blowing bubbles.
we partied our little hearts out at some of the city's most happenin' pool parties.
